Protecting your property from the harsh Canadian winters make a freeze alarm a must if you own a cabin, trailer, home, second home or any building that is exposed to freezing temperatures. Every year hundreds of Canadian home owners have devastating water and freeze damage done to their home when the electrical power fails or the furnace quits. Frozen pipes burst and water damage quickly develops into interior rot and mold development making a very expensive repair. "Snow birds" have piece of mind while they are living in the south. They know they will be warned of furnace failure, and they often call their freeze alarm to verify the furnace is operating. We carry several models of freeze alarm systems from 3 of the top manufacturers.

All models of freeze alarms will monitor for falling temperatures, and will call you on any phone to warn you of the problem. You may then call a neighbor or your furnace company to take corrective action. More advanced models also monitor for power failure, water rising, intrusion and the Cottage Sitter even listens for unusually high noises. This can be useful for detecting break ins, smoke alarm activity or even a furnace fan belt squealing. Most models will call 3 or 4 different phone numbers and the Cottage Sitter 1108 will call up to 8 numbers.
Most freeze alarms will also monitor for rising temperatures as well to protect against heat damage when the A/C fails. This can save plants, furniture and even pets. You may also add a humidistat to some models to warn of rising humidity, if that is a problem in your area. Installation is usually as simple as plugging in the power cable and the phone cord. Most model require batteries, except the Temperature and Home Guards which use internal rechargeable batteries. The batteries are only used during a power outage, so they typically last a very long time. Some models will call you if the battery is low. If you would like to warm up your home with a phone call before you arrive, check out the Cottage Sitter, Freeze Alarm model FAD2 or Temperature Guard model VM500-1.
